LinkedIn bio

About 110 words. For the About section, or for anyone introducing me in a post.

Rui Pedro Alves is founder and Chairman of RUPEAL, the holding company he started in 2007. He built KWAN, trading since 2007 and under its own brand since 2014, and InvoiceXpress, founded in 2009 and sold in 2024 to Visma, a European leader in invoicing and accounting software. Today he is building Selfcare, the HR SaaS he founded in 2014 as ClanHR. His thesis is simple: the difference between working for your business and having the business work for you lies in culture, the right people, and personal development. Culture and numbers are two sides of the same coin. He is a mentor at the RAMP community, where he helps business owners build companies with a culture of excellence, growth and joy.

Stage introduction

Two sentences, to be read out loud.

Rui Pedro Alves has been building companies in Portugal for almost two decades. He founded RUPEAL, KWAN and InvoiceXpress, which he sold to Visma in 2024, and today he helps other business owners build companies that run without depending on them.

Short

About 70 words. Event programmes, podcast notes.

Rui Pedro Alves is founder and Chairman of RUPEAL, the holding company he started in 2007. He founded KWAN, a technology talent company, and InvoiceXpress, the first invoicing SaaS in the Portuguese market, sold in 2024 to Visma, a European leader in invoicing and accounting software. He is a mentor at the RAMP community, where he helps business owners build companies with a culture of excellence, growth and joy.

Long

About 150 words, with the group figures. Press and institutional materials.

Rui Pedro Alves is founder and Chairman of the RUPEAL group, which he started in 2007. He built KWAN, a technology talent company trading since 2007 and under its own brand since 2014, and in 2009 founded InvoiceXpress, the first invoicing software delivered as SaaS in the Portuguese market, sold in 2024 to Visma, a European leader in invoicing and accounting software. In 2014 he founded ClanHR, today Selfcare, an HR management SaaS for Portuguese SMEs. The RUPEAL group generates over €20M in annual revenue and employs more than 300 people, in a predominantly remote model, with an office in Lisbon. He uses personal development as a pillar of his organisations and argues that culture and numbers are two sides of the same coin. He is a mentor at the RAMP community, where he helps business owners build companies that thrive without depending on the owner being in the room.

Lines you can quote

They are mine and have been said in public.

The thesis

The difference between working for your business and having the business work for you lies in culture, the right people, and personal development.

Culture and numbers

Culture and numbers are two sides of the same coin. Operate on one side only and you operate with half the view.

Blind spots

What kills businesses is not the gap you already know about. It is the mark on your forehead that everyone sees except you.

Three things that often come out wrong

  • At RAMP I am a mentor of the community, not its founder.
  • Visma is a European leader in invoicing and accounting software. Do not use other rankings.
  • Selfcare is ClanHR, founded in 2014, with a new name and a new product. It is not a new company and it was not an acquisition.
